BORGWARD AT BROOKLANDS – GERMAN CAR DAY 1st OCTOBER 2023 Ian Davidson

After attending a couple of local car shows in Farnham and Haslemere where the Brooklands Roadshow was in attendance, I was approached by a member of the committee to see if I’d be interested in displaying my Coupé at their “German Car Day” on 1st October this year. I agreed and along with only 2 other cars (Mercedes & VW) the Coupé was displayed in the prestigious Paddock in front of the Clubhouse and Clock Tower. There was a constant stream of interest in the coupé, the vast majority of the other cars there were modern £100K plus Porsches. When I attend shows the questions and comments I receive are all very similar, this one being no different. What is it? Never seen one before. Borgward never heard of it. Is it a Wartburg? Was it made in Czechoslovakia. Is it 2 stroke? Is it a Karman Ghia? Where was it made? Is it American? Love the smell of the leather (mine is vinyl as original) Art deco dashboard. I didn’t attempt the Hill Climb as I didn’t want to show up the Porsches. Lain Bell was also at the event in his combi. A great day out raising the Borgward flag as I have done for the last 23 years!!
