_John Wallis 1957 Borgward Hansa Pullman 2400

I have restored 2 Isabella Coupés in the past but had always wanted a Pullman. Graham Mander emailed some pictures of this car that had spent all its life in Christchurch, New Zealand. Originally registered on the 28th April 1958 the car was owned by C Williams & Sons Ltd Christchurch before being sold in 1967. When the house the car was garaged at burnt down in the 1980s the Pullman was dragged out with suffering a burnt roof. It was then stored in a yard for many years before the owner died. I bought the the car from the next of kin.

As the car had not moved for 30 years it had to be containerized on its long trip back to Europe probably following the same route it took in 1958 but arriving in Southampton not Hamburg.

I have set up a number of pages to show the rebuild progress.

The table was created from the "list of chassis and engine numbers of cars-examination", issue January 1961. Statistics from the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) there are exceptions to the above total of 1399
1) Oswald (German cars 1945-1975, pp. 413, Stuttgart, 1976) indicates the start of production of the Pullman II with July 1955. Going now to the monthly production figures (VDA statistics)
assumes a production of the Pullman I ended around the end of June 1955 with 56 cars and 20 Pullman II, since Ulrich Kotte has the Pullman II 295 311, can be a bit more type II were built and fewer type I. Erik Eckermann (automotive history) and Christian Steiger wrote 356 Pullman II (Oldtimer)
